The "Pandora's Box" show is up and it looks great!! There were sixteen women whose work is hanging. It's very interesting to see the interpretations of the contents of each woman's gift box.

The show will be up until Saturday, April 2nd. On that day, we will take the show down from noon to 1:00 pm. Pick up your work at that time. Come early, if you haven't sent the show yet. I will also have the work from Aging Partners for those who participated in that show for pick up at that time also.

At 1:00, we can then go across the street to Valentino's for some lunch and a meeting. We should have the Prospectus for the Altered Book show and the 11/11/11 show at that time. For those who are interested, we can follow lunch with a visit to the International Quilt Museum.

If you are unable to come to Lincoln on that day, let me know. You can pick up your work at my house on Sunday, April 3rd between 4:00 and 5:00. Unless you are out of town and have made special arrangements with me, please pick up your work or make arrangements with someone to pick it up for you between those hours. I know that you can understand that I don't have much room at my house to store my art, let alone other people's work.

The "Pandora's Box" show was really a lot of fun to do and to see. I think that part of the fun, for those who contributed a box, was seeing how another artist was inspired by what was in the box. There were at least nine who took a box but didn't participate at this time so some of you didn't get to experience an interpretation of the item you brought. I heard from some who had conflicts and were unable to finish their pieces. We will have another opportunity to hang this show again so they can show their finished work. I also heard from some who told me that they were not going to participate in this show. If that is the case, I would like it if those women could get their boxes back to me. I will distribute them to others who didn't have the opportunity to participate but want to.

Caucus members have traded small boxes containing objects to inspire new works of art. Artists may incorporate the object into their final work or just use it as a springboard to a new creation. The results will be shown in March at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's east student union.

Polyester plate lithography, also called pronto plate lithography, is a non-toxic method created by George Roberts at Boise State University. With this method, you can reproduce the full spectrum of lithographic marks, such as hand-drawn brush strokes, ink wash, texture, crayon and pencil marks. It is equally well suited for digital imaging.

To participate, bring some ideas about what you want to achieve. You may also bring watercolor paintings, old prints, or anything you'd like to try printing on. This process lends itself to adding to old ideas to make new art.

All paper and supplies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own paper. Rice papers, old prints and printmaking paper are best. Just be aware that not all paper types work in this medium.

Any Dream Will Do

Preliminary Prospectus:

Initial exhibition will be at the UNL East Campus Student Union in Lincoln during the month of March. Nudes are not allowed and will not be hung.

Artists may enter one or two pieces.

Artwork may be no larger than 18 X 24 and will have screw eyes and wire for hanging.

Drop-off will be on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The artwork will be stored until the show is hung on Monday, March 1. Arrangements can be made to transport pieces from Omaha to Lincoln. Jeri Brainard will be unable to be there for the drop-off so if you're willing to facilitate this, please contact Cyndy Ulrich Sacks. She will be there to hang the show on Monday and can be there on Saturday but would rather only make one trip to Lincoln.

Pick-up will most likely be on Friday, April 2. Cyndy is looking into delaying the pick-up until Saturday, April 3 and possibly arranging a lunch meeting and also a tour of the Quilt Museum, Robert Hillestad Gallery and the Dairy Store for that day. How many of you would be interested in doing that? It is the day before Easter, if that would make a difference to you.

More great news about the show!! Sondra Gerber and Anne Nye, owners of Blue Pomegranate Gallery at 6570 Maple in Omaha, have agreed to allow us to hang "Any Dream Will Do" in their gallery for the month of September! Stop in and say hello and thanks. Drop-off and pick-up dates will be sent to you as the time approaches.

Margaret Berry is very enthusiastic about teaching an Encaustic Workshop for us. Diane Mattern has graciously agreed to let us use her studio once again. It will be a really fun experience!

The class will be 3 hours long which should be enough time for each to finish 2 pieces. The minimum number of students is 6 and the maximum is 12. The fee for the class is $15/hr for instruction and materials per person. The total fee will vary depending on how many take the class because there is a $60 travel expense fee that will be divided equally among those in the class. The cost to you will end up being between $45 and $55 and a portion of that will be covered by the Caucus for our Members.

Cyndy requests a committed response from anyone who wants to take the class and also a preference for a morning or an afternoon class time. When she has received answers, she can decide whether there is a need to split into two classes and class times will be set.

Members feature work in galleries across region

Marcia Joffe-Bouska has a selection of artwork on exhibit at Tazza di Caffe (928 Valley View Drive, Council Bluffs) through the month of June. Works displayed include mixed media relief pieces from her “Icon Series”, paintings from her “Transposition Series”, and drawings from her “Garden Series”.

Tazza’s hours are:

Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m

Friday 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Liz Langdon will show ceramic and mixed media work at Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City from June 29 to Aug. 13, 2009.

Painters Jean Mason and Lori Elliott-Bartle are featured artists at the Artists' Co-operative Gallery, 405 S. 11th St. in Omaha, through June 28. The Artists' Co-op is open Wednesday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Create with Concrete

Join caucus members and friends to create and embellish a concrete garden ball with Diane Mattern on Saturday, July 18, at Diane's studio, 2877 Bondesson in Omaha. Choose morning session (9:30 a.m. to noon) or afternoon session (1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Bring a sack lunch and visit with artists between sessions. Lincoln Gathering March 8

Let's gather, discuss work, share a meal, view art and explore ideas together on Sunday, March 8.

We'll begin with a buffet lunch at 11 a.m. at Valentino's at 35th and Holdrege.

We'll go to UNL East Campus Student Union for a short meeting and to view our show.

Then we'll head to the Sheldon Gallery on the main UNL campus to hear Karen Kunc speak at 2 p.m. about "Women and Art." Exhibits at the Sheldon include "Art by Women," "Calder Sculptures," "Exposures of Landscape and Life: Photographs from the Sheldon's Permanent Collection," and "Evolving Eden: Three Photographic Perspectives."

Printmaker and UNL faculty member Karen Kunc was involved in the caucus for many years and was active in forming the Nebraska chapter.

"Improving Community and Nurturing Opportunity: Women's History Month" is the theme for the show at the University of Nebraska Lincoln's East Campus student union.

Artwork should be delivered Saturday, Feb. 28 between noon and 2 p.m. Pieces must hang with a wire. Include tags with artwork title, artist name, media, price and phone number. There is no fee and the university will not take a commission on anything sold.

From Omaha, take I-80 to the Waverly exit. Take a left onto Hwy 6 and go to 48th St. Turn right onto East Campus Loop and take a right on East Campus Mall to the north parking lot. The lot is metered, but you may park free on the weekend. Gallery is on third floor of the student union.
